2010 Scholarship Awards Update

Introduction

From its early beginnings, EWI has always been committed to promoting community involvement and professional development among its members. In 1974, EWI participated in a community project to encourage the development of careers in business among high school students. Enthusiastically embraced by chapters throughout the organization, the program quickly grew and developed into what is now known as the Business/Career/Development Program (B/C/DP). Today, B/C/DP is a renowned nonprofit organization offering scholastic assistance under the following scholarship programs:

Executive Women International® Scholarship Program (EWISP)

The Executive Women International® Scholarship Program has been helping high school juniors achieve their academic goals for over 25 years. Recognized by Money magazine as one of the top 12 scholarship opportunities in the United States, EWISP allows selected students to compete at both the EWI chapter and EWI corporate levels for scholarships.

Qualifications:

  • The scholarship is open to all high school juniors in public, private and parochial schools in the areas served by EWI chapters. (For a list of all chapter locations, visit the EWI corporate website at www.executivewomen.org)
  • Students must use their award toward earning a four-year degree at an accredited college or university. (Students may attend a two-year accredited college, but only as the initial step in the pursuit of a four-year degree.)
  • Students must be selected either by their school or by a teacher. Selections are accepted between January and March and are limited to one student per school.

Judging Criteria:

Students are judged on their application materials, oral and written communication skills, creativity, scholastic records, involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership qualities, awards and honors, citizenship, attitude and clearly defined career goals.

Awards:

CORPORATE SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDS AWARD AMOUNT
First Place $10,000 scholarship and a trip to the EWI Leadership Conference & Annual Meeting

Adult Students In Scholastic Transition Program (ASIST)

The Adult Students in Scholastic Transition Program (ASIST) provides financial support to adult students at transitional points in their lives. Applicants may be single parents, individuals just entering the workforce or displaced workers who live within a chapter's geographical boundaries. To be eligible for the program, candidates must be able to define their career goals and objectives and meet the necessary educational and financial requirements.

Selection Criteria:

  • Financial need
  • Displaced head of household with small children
  • Socially, physically and/or economically challenged

Application Requirements:

It is requested that candidates submit a copy of their most recent tax return, a letter stating career goals/objectives and how they will achieve the goals/objectives, a statement of financial need, and where relevant, an application for financial aid. In countries outside the United States, candidates can submit other documents, in lieu of a tax return, to establish their financial status.
